About Us
There is a particular kind of frustration that comes from knowing exactly what a space needs — and not being able to find it.
For a decade, Dorigari's founder, Pragun Sharma, worked alongside India's most discerning interior designers, architects, and luxury developers. Project after project, the same gap surfaced: the rug market offered either expensive imports disconnected from the Indian context, or locally made products that lacked the design rigour the spaces deserved. Nothing in between spoke the right language.
Dorigari was founded to close that gap.
We create handcrafted carpets in India — made to order, designed with intention, and built on materials chosen for longevity and feel rather than convenience. Every piece begins not with a pattern, but with a conversation about the space it will live in: the quality of light, the scale of the room, the way people will move through it.
Our name carries that philosophy. Dori — thread. Gari — the act of making. The thread made with purpose.
Design First. Material Second. Craft Always.
Most rug producers begin with what the loom can do and work backward toward design. At Dorigari, the process is reversed. We begin with the space: what does this room require? What relationship between surface, light, and proportion will make this space feel resolved?
From that question, we select the construction. From the construction, we select the material. From the material, we design the piece.
The Craft
Every Dorigari carpet is handmade in India and made to order — no warehouses, no overruns.
Hand Tufted — the majority of our collection, allowing for painterly, fluid, gradient-rich designs that knotted techniques cannot easily achieve.
Hand Knotted — select pieces, tied knot by knot around the warp threads by skilled craftspeople, denser and harder-wearing.
Hand Woven / Flatweave — organic, flowing constructions inspired by natural movement.
We work primarily with New Zealand wool, chosen for its resilience, natural lustre, and softness underfoot, and introduce bamboo silk where a design calls for greater depth and a shifting, luminous surface.
The Inspiration
Our designs are organised by mood and spatial intention rather than style alone — flowing, calming compositions for spaces that breathe; structured, architectural forms for spaces that compose; and expressive, art-led pieces for spaces that speak. Individual designs draw their names from Sanskrit, carrying ideas of form, motion, and meaning: sand shaped by wind, the shoreline where land meets water, rhythm made visible.
We are not a heritage brand trading on provenance alone. We are building a new standard for luxury carpets in India, where design, material, and craft exist in genuine balance — not as marketing language, but as the actual terms of how we work.
